Web 2.0: The Social Web

Introduction

The Web 1.0 is the begin of the World Wide Web. In this stage a lot of people could publish their content and the final user just read it, the publication tools were difficult to use for the majority of the people.

The Web 2.0 references to the second step in the Web evolution that we are passing in the present.
Let me tell you that the year 2006 was the year of the Web 2.0, if you like to know more about this fact please read this amazing article in the Times magazine in which they claim to be the person of the year to YOU!.

Back to the definition of this new phenomenon, The Web 2.0 is a collection of web tools: Blogs, Wikis, Collaborative tools, Social sites that make people stay more in contact, interaction and sharing likes, dislikes, information, photos, comments, ideas and so on.

But the Web 2.0 is also a new way to use Internet and this new technologies, all of us make this interconnected place useful and valuable.
The society is creating content very fast and sharing information in a new, easily and creative way.

Characteristics

  • This Web is writable: people can create, modify, share and read content more easily and fast than ever. We become prosumers (producer and consumer of content).
  • The society is generating content in an exponential manner. The information is at our fingerprints.
  • There is a lot of human interaction: The interaction make the knowledge.
  • There are a lot of distributed conversations between different cultures, countries.
  • There are no space, time and cultural limits.
  • New Economy: new businesses are generated with the knowledge and information as the raw material.
